Help is only a phone call away with the JLD….

Posted 21/01/2008 by Mike Semple Piggot

Today I read a story in the Water Cooler section of The Times about the new helpline set up by the Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society – the successor to the old TSG and YSG – to help students and young lawyers that need help with problems, stress and pressure.

I called the Law Society to find out more and their press office could not have been more helpful, calling back within 10 minutes to suggest that I speak to JLD president Katherine Gibson. She agreed to do a podcast with me.

This helpline - run by volunteer lawyers trained by the Samaritans - will be confidential and anonymous. It is a great initiative and one that students and younger lawyers will be grateful for if they do run into problems. There is a lot of bad news in the world.  It is good to be able to write about a bit of good news. The Law Society and JDL deserve praise for doing this.

If you wish to listen to the podcast (it's about seven minutes long) click here. The JLD has its own website, meanwhile, and the helpline number is 0800 856131.
