One for the PR community…

While I’m not planning on boring readers with many blogs on the inner workings of Legal Week, I’ve repeatedly been told by our marketing department that ‘educating the market’ is A Good Thing. As such, it seems an apt moment to cave in to discuss some changes to the magazine’s editorial team.

First up, our news editor, Paul Hodkinson, has recently departed to join Private Equity News/Financial News in a senior role. It is a shame for us as Paul has been a highly-valued member of the team for some time but he promises to keep up with his many legal contacts in private equity at his new berth. Being a polished operator, Paul went out in style with a crisply-written commentary published today on the advisers targeting sovereign wealth funds.

On the plus side, this has also given us a chance to promote Georgina Stanley, our lead City correspondent, to take on Paul’s news editor role. George has been an exceptional performer since she joined Legal Week two years ago, so we have every confidence in her.

Other changes see Charlotte Edmond step up to senior reporter to lead our City coverage. Charlotte - who last year smoothly handled the not-inconsiderable-job of reporting on Freshfields’ restructuring and related matters - has more recently been busy focusing on Slaughter and May, as can been from this interview with firm’s new senior partner Chris Saul.

Charlotte will be further supported on the City beat by Emma Sadowski, who joins us from Chambers & Partners, while fellow new recruit Sofia Lind has taken on the lead responsibility for international news.

While, I’m on the subject of team changes, eagle-eyed readers may have noticed that Richard Lloyd, The American Lawyer’s senior European correspondent, has contributed a comment piece for today’s Legal Week. That reflects a desire for us to work more closely with AmLaw but also our regard for Richard, who is one of the most assured legal commentators around.

As such, Richard - whose blogs have been running on legalweek.com for some time - will now be providing more input on Legal Week’s main comment and analysis, so you’ll be hearing more from him.

Anyway, apologies for the navel-gazing, we’re not going to be making a habit of it.
